It started with Karaoke...

Yep! Saw an ad for a new karaoke website. tried it out. Enjoyed it, but at times - well, ALWAYS really - it’s very slow. So I thought I’d surf my way through YouTube, looking for acoustic recordings of songs I like. I found one! So I had a few hours of fun with it, recording various tracks of me singing, then putting it all together in GarageBand. I LOVE my Macbook!! :D

Two Monologues

I kinda never got round to posting these, but they have been on YouTube for a while. Here are the two monologues I performed at a little get together of my theater & drama school.

Not very well prepared - I only had a few days - but I certainly enjoyed it! Not very happy with the first but fairly happy with the second. I swear a week later I performed them again for myself and again for my coach and it was a thousand times better! :'(

Short but Sweet!

That was the Wednesday shoot! I had to check out of the hotel at midday and was picked up at 5:30pm by the driver, taking me to the studio. I immediately got into costume and right after that people took their “lunch” break. After that two other scenes were short before it was my turn. In the meantime I of course got a few comments about my looks… Ms FLODDER! Heh. Ew.

Then they called me for the briefing and read through. One of the main actors told the other, who hadn’t been at the shoot the day before, how good I was! That went down well! :)

We shot the scene in the interrogation room once. The director said something like: “OK, that was good! We’ll shoot it again and this time go a little further. Diana: everything super!”

We shot the scene again and I went a little further, so did the leads and after that everyone was thrilled! That’s a wrap! and the actors and the director thank me for the great scene. Wow! Haven’t seen them do that with the guy from yesterday!

Short while later the tech guy comes over to pick up the mic and tells me casually how they are all think that I did great!

Crap what a great day! Food for the soul! :D

Less than three months!

…and I’ll be in Vancouver already! HOLY COW! I could squeal!

I’m at a hotel in Munich right now and am waiting for the driver to pick me up. Whooops! Oh yes! Failed to mention that I got a role as a drug addict for a crime series on German TV! YAY!

I’ve always wanted to play something as demanding as that - ever since I saw the Basketball Diaries - and must admit that when I got the call two weeks ago I was somewhat scared of messing it up! But they started with something like “It’s a big role and we need someone who can act!” Well, how about that?! ;D

Yesterday was the first day of shooting. For about a week now I haven’t washed my hair and haven’t shaved either - which wasn’t necessary but I figured it couldn’t hurt and I kinda enjoyed the greassy hair while preparing for the role. Heh. Ew.

Since Friday I’ve been hiding it under a head band, which I wear quite often anyway so nobody at work noticed. And boy was it worth it! I got a lot of praise on set for the outfit (with help from the costume and make-up ladies) and even moreso for the acting! Got several thanks, also from the director. Felt good.

They weren’t happy about my herb cigarettes though. Well, everyone was okay with, saw the neccessity, it except for one of the main actors - but he was overall fussy. I still felt sorry for him. I’ve never smoked more than maybe two of those cigarettes and didn’t expect that chain smoking 10 of them would cause such… thick air? The smell was great (everyone hated it) and it certainly added to the atmosphere! :P

Today we’ll shoot my third and last scene. No smoking this time - glad about not having to hear the guy whinge again. ;D

Makes me wonder though whether I should start smoking light cigarettes… I love the atmosphere that cigarettes can add to a scene and I wouldn’t want such hassle with the herb cigarettes again. But I don’t want to lose any roles just because I am a non-smoker!

If anyone knows of any other nicotine free cigarettes that could be purchased on the internet and that don’t cause such a stink please let me know! Otherwise… XX(

The Acting Thing

The essay I sent to the acting school - minus a few application specific things - about why I want to be an actress…
